CCCA MEMBER OPPORTUNITY
Dear Artist Member,
I recently read an article written by a former gallery owner explaining a unique method he had for selling art. Often he would find himself engaging in conversations with prospective buyers about the artists. It wasn’t long before he noticed that the people he talked with just weren’t that interested in knowing what awards an artist had won, what exhibits he/she had been in, what magazines had run feature stories. What attracted them were things about the artist personally. In fact, he noticed that he sold more paintings just by being a storyteller. Hence he came to the conclusion that, in most cases, it's not so much the art that’s the “Social Object” as it is the artist.
Immediately I recognized the ring of truth in this. Many of the beloved master painters of the past, regarded as such because of their technical skill, have become more endeared to us because of what we have come to know of what was happening in their lives, perhaps obstacles they had to overcome or personal struggles they were having. Indeed, as we know, many great artists were not viewed as such in their own lifetimes. It being not until after their death that their work was truly appreciated. It makes me wonder how much a part personal information about them, or the lack thereof, played in this.
As we move into an era where artists are “marketing” themselves online by the use of blogs and other social media, more and more it seems that the most successful artists seem to be telling stories, being authentic, being themselves.
CCCA would like to give you the opportunity to do this. By means of a partnership with an online radio program entitled “This American Landscape” member artists are being invited to “tell their story” in a casual setting.
To learn more or to schedule an interview please call or email me, Ken Young at (518) 392-6842, kenart56@gmail.com or Jim Brady at (518) 765-8370 or (518) 672-4698, jim.brady@jrittermarketing.com.
