Clarion Concerts is the oldest classical music organization in Columbia County. Celebrating its 26th year in 2007 Clarion presents its fall series of chamber music concerts - the LEEF PEEPER CONCERTS - during September and October.

Clarion was founded by Newell Jenkins to bring high quality professional performances of chamber music to residents and guests of the county, enhancing the fall’s colorful changes. The Leaf Peeper Concerts have continued the Jenkins’ tradition under the leadership of Sanford Allen, violinist and Music Director. Formerly a member of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Mr. Allen continues to play with them seasonally. He chooses the Leaf Peeper programs and invites other world-renowned musicians to join him in performance of old and new music.

Clarion commissions a chamber music work each year, one of the organization’s most exciting aspects. We look forward in October to hearing the premier performance of a string trio by Carman Moore who studied with Luciano Berio and Vincent Persichetti and has written for the New York Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony. He has written broadly for orchestra, dance, opera and the Mass and been performed throughout the world.

Our three concert season begins on September 29 at St. James Church in Chatham at 7:30PM where the Stuckenbruck family will perform Bach to Massenet on piano, violin, mandolin, glasses and musical saw, a most unusual Fall evening. On October 13, at Copake Methodist Church in Copake our Annual Baroque concert will emphasize Bach, Handel and Telemann’s harpsichord and violin music. The last concert, October 27, will present string trios by Schubert, Haydn, Dohnanyi and our commissioned work by Carman Moore.

Admission is $20 for adults and free for students. Watch your newspapers for discount coupons. Tickets are available at the door. For additional information, call 518-329-5613.
