Roberta Meyerson

Artist Statement
 
I have always been interested in pattern and texture. My formal education was in NYC during the hay day of the abstract expressionists. Many of those artists taught at NYU and Brooklyn College where I was a student. Nevertheless, I cannot resist the narrative in my work.
I currently work with fabrics notions and other found materials which I affix to the canvas and then paint over them.
 
I people my paintings with individuals and situations that may relate to observation or imagination, but all are informed in some way by my life experiences. For me, the narrative and the aesthetics are one.
