Inspired by model railroad train layouts, boomer toys and the TV show, Land of the Giants, I use scale models, figurines, toys and natural materials to create vignettes that encourage the viewer to look at the miniature world more closely. Macro photography of nature follows my interest in color, light and design. I enjoy solving artistic puzzles and create photographs with humor, odd juxtapositions and scales with a sense of playfulness. There is a hint of surrealism in some of my work that allows the viewer to do a double-take. I plan to continue playing with sugary sweets and salty, crunchy foods in my work.
I grew up in New York City. I have a background in photography, graphic design, film, sound design and computer technologies. I graduated from Hunter College with a degree in photography and hold a Master of Science in Strategic Technology Mangement from Marlboro College (Vermont).
Having taken so many photographs since I was six years old, I worry that they will soon need their own house. Recently, I have been concentrating on pushing the boundaries of macro photography using materials that we may have seen somewhere before but maybe haven’t looked at in the way that I might. I think that this obsession has something to do with the lack of toys I had when I was a child. I plan to continue working on making up for that oversight.
